This is annoyingly cynical, a pile of cultural analysis and self-reflection. Growing up as a black girl in a predominately white area, you assume the worst in everything and everyone for your safety. It’s purely a survival tactic to be cynical.
But cynicism is draining. It’s so boring to always look for the worst. Sometimes you want to assume that there are good people who do good things, but often, we’re not afforded the luxury of ignorant bliss.
The many personalities I cycle through in a day to code-switch, or to relate to my very different types of friends, are a symptom of the white supremacist patriarchy. I want to be liked despite my nonchalance. I want to be liked despite the world’s inherent hate for me since birth. I want to be liked and listened to because I want to beat the way the world ignores black women. I want to be liked to prove people wrong.
But how can I be liked when I annoy my friends. A lot. I manage to turn everything into an intersectional feminist, anti-capitalist, black liberation think piece. So, for the sake of their sanity and giving me an outlet to share my thoughts, we are here: being annoying and being hypercritical of the world I exist in.
Truthfully, this is probably the most vulnerable anyone will ever see me. It is so easy to type your thoughts. The internet is a barrier in my head. You can’t actually perceive that this is me speaking and thinking. I am not real on the internet, therefore anyone who knows me in real life cannot question anything I admit here.
With all of that being said, I am excited to start sharing my thoughts in a more cohesive and articulate way. My goal is to help people put words to what they’ve always felt. Nothing here will be revolutionary, nor will I solve any of the world’s problems. For the most part, I am just here to complain and be relatable. I think more people are far more radical than they believe, so I’m here to start your conversion and self-realization, while also tuning my own beliefs. We will grow together.
I can’t wait to annoy you all!
